Bibliography (annotated)
Exploring the Environment, (2004). Water Quality. [online] Available at: http://www.cotf.edu/ete/modules/waterq3/WQassess4h.html [Accessed 20 Oct. 2014].
In this article the author/s review the effects of temperature on water quality. The main discussion is about the effects of water temperature on dissolved oxygen levels in water, photosynthesis of aquatic plants, metabolic rates of aquatic organisms and the sensitivity these organisms will have towards disease, parasites and other pollutants. This article explained how water temperature can have a harmful affect on dissolved oxygen levels which can in turn harshly effect aquatic life. This text was useful because of its direct relevance to water quality and it was from a reliable education website written by professionals in the chemistry field.
Horiba, (2014). Ions in Water, and Conductivity - LAQUA [Water Quality Analyzer Website] - HORIBA. [online] Available at: http://www.horiba.com/application/material-property-characterization/water-analysis/water-quality-electrochemistry-instrumentation/the-story-of-ph-and-water-quality/the-basis-of-conductivity/ions-in-water-and-conductivity/ [Accessed 25 Oct. 2014].
This article explains the chemistry and history behind conductivity. They discuss salinity, conductivity, electrolytes and the history of conductivity in scientific terms. This article was used to explain conductivity and salinity in relation to water quality. This article also included some chemistry related information that was used in the discussion. This text was very accurate and informative because this text was from the official website of a water quality testing facility who also caters to NASA.
National Pollutant Inventory, (2014). Substance fact sheets | National Pollutant Inventory. [online] Available at: http://www.npi.gov.au/substances/fact-sheets [Accessed 12 Oct. 2014].
This website provides fact sheets on various substances to do with pollution. The two sheets used included Total Nitrogen and Total Phosphorus. In both they discuss all properties of total nitrogen and phosphorus readings including health and environmental effects. These sheets also provided information on recommended environmental guidelines which were used as a parameter. This website is apart of the Australian Governments Department of the Environment and is a trustworthy and reliable source.
The Engineering Toolbox, (2014). Salinity of Water. [online] Available at: http://www.engineeringtoolbox.com/water-salinity-d_1251.html [Accessed 23 Oct. 2014].
